You've found the online home of Glancy family cooking. It's a quick reference for members of the Glancy family, which flourished in the Johnstown, PA area, but has since spread around the world.
Family members have carried these recipes around in Xeroxed binders for years; now it's hopefully a little easier to double-check ingredients on the go. If you just happened across this site, we hope you find something here to make your family gatherings a little tastier. Enjoy!
"Humans are drawn to limits," my dad told me once. He was explaining why, as a young man, he'd picked up and moved to San Francisco. "They go as far as they can in one direction, and then they make their homes where they can see the empty places they can't go."
I'm not sure if that applies to everyone, since that would leave a pretty empty middle of the continent... but I take his point. I don't live near a limit, but it sure is great to visit one every July and meet up with the extended family. And I do love to wake up, walk down to the beach, and just stare out past the waves and think.
And then, of course, to pop back to the house to have some coffee and breakfast. It's not that helpful to contemplate the meaning of life on an empty stomach. You can try, but pretty soon the only examples of moral goodness you can picture have icing and sprinkles on them.
Here's hoping that wherever you are this July, you can make it to a limit somewhere and have a nice think. And maybe a vicious game of Parcheesi later.
